Bulgogi ([Korean BBQ Description])
Bulgogi is a popular Korean dish that originated from the royal court of Joseon Dynasty. It’s a marinated beef recipe, typically made with thinly sliced ribeye or sirloin, grilled to perfection and served with kimchi and steamed rice.
Ingredients
Proteins
- 1 pound thinly sliced ribeye steak
- 2 tablespoons gochujang (Korean chili paste)
Marinades
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 cloves minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
Vegetables
- 2 cups sliced zucchini
- 2 cups sliced carrots
- 1 cup green onions, thinly sliced
Additional ingredients
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 2 cups kimchi (traditional Korean fermented cabbage)
Bulgogi Sauce
Mix the following:
- 2 tablespoons gochujang
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
Recipe Steps
1. Preparing the marinade
In a large bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, and rice vinegar.
2. Marinating the beef
Add thinly sliced ribeye steak to the marinade mixture, making sure all sides of the meat are coated evenly. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
3. Preparing vegetables
In a separate bowl, whisk together sesame oil, salt, and black pepper. Add sliced zucchini, carrots, and green onions, tossing to coat evenly.
4. Grilling the beef
Preheat grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Remove the beef from marinade, letting excess liquid drip off. Grill for 3-5 minutes per side, or until cooked to desired level of doneness.
5. Assembling Bulgogi
Transfer grilled beef to a serving platter or individual plates. Arrange kimchi and vegetables around the meat in a single layer. Serve immediately.
