Bhuna Masala Beef Curry (Indian)
A rich and flavorful North Indian beef curry made with tender beef, onions, garlic, ginger, and a blend of warming spices.
Ingredients
Meat
- 500g beef, cut into small pieces
- 2 onions, thinly sliced
Aromatics
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 inch of fresh ginger, peeled and grated
- 2 tablespoons of coriander seeds
- 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
Spices
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- Salt, to taste
Oils and Acids
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons tomato puree
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
Bhuna Masala Sauce
Mix the following:
- 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons grated fresh ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
Recipe Steps
1. Roasting the Spices
Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a small pan over medium heat. Add coriander seeds, cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, and cardamom pods. Dry roast until fragrant.
2. Grinding the Spices
Let the roasted spices cool. Grind them into a fine powder using a spice grinder or mortar and pestle.
3. Searing the Onions
Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add sliced onions and cook until they are golden brown, stirring occasionally.
4. Adding Aromatics and Spices
Add minced garlic, grated ginger, ground cumin, garam masala powder, turmeric powder, and roasted spice mixture to the pan. Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
